Interesting Stuff

TED Talks:

* Dr Terry Wahl:  Reversing MS with the Paleo diet through minding your mitochondria
TED talk by Dr. Terry Wahls, MD   Fantastic talk.

* Dr Dean Ornish: Healing through diet ..  TED talk by Dr. Dean Ornish Dr Dean Ornish wants you to live longer, and have more fun while you're at it. He's one of the leading voices in the medical community promoting a balanced, holistic approach to health, and proving that it works. The author of Eat More Weigh Less and several other best-selling books, Ornish is best known for his lifestyle-based approach to fighting heart disease.  His research at the Preventive Medicine Research Institute (the nonprofit he founded) clinically demonstrated that cardiovascular illnesses -- and, most recently prostate cancer -- can be treated and even reversed through diet and exercise. These findings (once thought to be physiologically implausible) have been widely chronicled in the US media, including Newsweek, for which Ornish writes a column. The fifty-something physician, who's received many honors and awards, was chosen by LIFE Magazine as one of the most influential members of his generation. Among his many pursuits, Ornish is now working with food corporations to help stop America's obesity pandemic from spreading around the globe.

* Dr Peter Attia: talks about obesity and insulin resistance.  But more than an excellent speech, is his message of how some presentations (obesity) may and can be proxy disguises for bigger disorders.  He also talks with great personal morality about the medical communities need for a 'paradigm shift' towards care, compassion, humility and respect for patients ... absolutely outstanding speech: http://www.tedmed.com/talks/show?id=18029

And, here are some websites and personalities which I think are of interest and to be frank, inspirational:

Mind Body, Green is interesting, especially their stance on curing autoimmune disorders through an elimination diet (including eliminating grains and legumes) .. see this link.  The http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-8843/10-signs-you-have-an-autoimmune-disease-how-to-reverse-it.html

Green Kitchen Stories

This duo are just fabulous. Luise ( a nutritionist and midwife) and David (a developer, cook, photographer and food entrepreneur) started writing around the same time I was diagnosed (2009) and researching clean food. I recall stumbling upon their food journey and thinking .. ‘my god, these are beautiful people .. into photography, family, babies, food’ very much what I also adore.
I loved how genuine their ethos was (to live simply, to hand make clean food, to use seasonal and local produce, to not mess it up (eat simple), and how classy and clean they showcased that lifestyle choice. As they raise their family, travel internationally, write books, record blogs and develop their digital assets it’s been such a pleasure to follow them from afar. Their www is vast and full of beautiful plant based recipes which are easy to follow, with ingredients we can quite easily source here in NZ.

My New Roots

It was around a similar time that I also found the work of Sarah Britton. What a gorgeous human being. As a holistic nutritionist she has a genuine focus on whole foods. Her cooking is seasonal and flavourful, she has an eye for beautiful imagery and she writes as you can image she speaks (quite like me). Over the years Sarah has written cookbooks, taken retreats & workshops and further developed her website.

My Darling Lemon Thyme

Emma Galloway is a Raglan girl who I have been following for some years now. She has released 3 cookbooks and her Insta posts are just lovely and genuine. She is gluten free and vegetarian with a focus on clean food .. home grown vegetables and not messed with food, which I love. Her recent foray into ceramics (Tahu ceramics) further showcases her creative energy and skill.

more books I love …
